Dads and Sons

I'm in the barbershop right now. (I'm still single, ladies. Gotta stay fly.) There's nothing like going to the barbershop. For many, barbershops are a place where laughs, good conversation, and a general sense of community exist. For some, it has been a place where Dads of all types become fathers to those without a father or without a father accessible on an everyday basis. It feels good to me to have a good relationship with my barber. We don't really talk much but there's a definite bond there. He gives me a hug and an "I love you, Man" every time I come in. Its a comfort and a home-like feeling for me.
Today in the shop, there's a nice young father seated across from me. He's got his two sons in here. After one of the sons got down out of the chair and seated himself next to his father, the father reached out his big hand and checked out the haircut. He smiled with pride and said, "yeah" as he rubbed his sons head in a manly way. It reminded me of my dad. He is notorious for grabbing me like that and giving me a rub and push of approval. I am thankful for him and the man that he has been for me. The positive memories definitely hold more weight than the negative and I'd have it no other way. Embrace your father today. Whether its a physical embrace or a mental embracing of who he is. Be thankful for the father figures in life and Love them. Have an awesome one.

I figured I'd put up an old picture. This is from the summer in Greensboro. I was heading to Raleigh to hang out with family and the sun was setting. I looked over to my right towards downtown and had to stop for a picture. The rainbow was nice and I figured it would be a nice shot. I hope to add more pictures quite often. I have been seriously inspired to make sure I exercise my creativity much more through photography. Be on the lookout!

Wedding Celebration!!

On Saturday, November 7, 2009, my sister became a married woman. This is a big step in the life of our family. I am excited to have a new brother and excited to be heading into a new chapter of family life. My sister is a great person. She has shared a whole life with me. Ups and downs, smiles, arguments, inside jokes, and special connections will never be lost between us, no matter where she is or what she is doing. I truly treasure that fact. I am excited that she now gets to share a whole life with someone else. Mike is an awesome guy. There is no doubt in my mind how much he loves my sister. For that, I am extremely thankful.
I learned a few things over the weekend:
1. My family means the world to me.
It's really an interesting thing. I have never realized how much I appreciate them. I got the chance to hang out with my Dad for the first time in almost 2 years. It was the first time of any length in more time than that... We shared meals, jokes, hugs, and most importantly, life together even if only for a couple of days.
2. My cousins and aunts are amazing.
Although we are a mix of different personalities, we share the same love for one another. It is truly awesome to just be in the same house with them.
3. My (sister's) friends are great.
They've been with her for a long time and they've also been true to her for a long time. I appreciate that quality.
4. Life is amazing!!!
Each step we take in life, every stage, every trial, every good day, every bad day, every smile, everything, leads us into becoming the best people that we can be. Our lives are amazing, whether we realize it or not, and we are only getting better at living them.

I am so full of love right now!
Life is great!
